Nyonya dishes have their origin in the 16th century when the Chinese first settled in what is now Malaysia. Nyonya is the name for the descendants of the Chinese immigrants. The "Kapitan" was the intermediary between local rulers and the Chinese. This dish is a true fusion of Chinese and Malay cooking.
